Kelana Jaya LRT woes: it could be sabotage, says first Prasarana CEO
Datuk Ridza Abdoh Salleh says technical issues aside, internal work culture also
needs addressing
Incidents and accidents[edit]
- 4 March 2018 – An incident involving a high voltage power line breaking and falling on the
- roof causes Kelana Jaya station's roof to be blown away. The station is closed for repairs and
- trains on both routes pass through the station. Passengers who intend to stop there to take
- the bus shuttle have to alight at either Taman Bahagia station (route to Gombak) or Lembah
- Subang station (route to Putra Heights). Kelana Jaya station re-opens a few days later.
- 24 May 2021 - 2021 Kelana Jaya LRT collision: An accident occurs at around 9pm between
- KLCC and Kampung Baru. 47 seriously injured and 166 minor injuries.[16]
- 2 May 2022 - A train suddenly braked in the tunnel between Dang Wangi and Kampung Baru
- while travelling towards Gombak at around 11:20 pm. The train eventually continued towards
- KLCC with passengers asked to disembark. No injuries were reported.[17]
- 5-15 November 2022 - A series of service disruptions caused by faulty automatic train control
- (ATC) device(s) that would make the trains go slower and stop longer than usual, especially
- the stretch between Kelana Jaya and KLCC stations. On Saturday 5 November 2022, the fault
- occurred between KLCC and Ampang Park stations. RapidKL resolved the problem by updating
- the software of the faculty ATC device and train service resumed as usual on Sunday. The
- problem resurfaced again on Monday afternoon. It have been briefly resolved but the same
- problem reoccurred on the stretch between KLCC and Kelana Jaya stations on evening. The
- stations between Ampang Park and Kelana Jaya were closed at night to resolve the ATC
- stability issues.[18] However the same problem also occurred on Tuesday evening at the same
- stretch (KLCC-Kelana Jaya), leading to suspension the 16 stations between Ampang Park and
- Kelana Jaya stations from Tuesday evening and remain closed for a week starting 9 November
- to 15 November.[19][20] During the weeklong stations closure period, Prasarana will carry out the
- repairs as the root cause of the problem for the Ampang Park-Kelana Jaya stretch remain
- unknown, while the Putra Heights-Lembah Subang and Damai-Gombak stretch of the line
- continue to operate. Over 80 free shuttle buses by Rapid KL and Smart Selangor were provided
- to carry the passengers from the affected areas due to closure of Ampang Park-Kelana Jaya
- stretch of the line. The closure of Kelana Jaya-Ampang Park stretch for Kelana Jaya line caused
- the criticism to thePrasarana CEO and management, as well the inconvenience to the
- passengers such as overcrowding of free shuttle buses.
